Upcoming Webinar Will Give Cities Strategies to Help Local Business To Prepare for the Next Natural Disaster

The Seismic Safety Commission will host a webinar on Sept. 5 for city and county leaders who are interested in raising awareness about the practical strategies businesses can implement in advance of the next disaster.

The webinar is part of the commission’s Outsmart Disaster campaign and the effort also includes the Resilient Business Challenge. The commission believes that local government leaders are instrumental to its effort to reach their business communities to raise awareness about steps they can take now to help them get back to business faster following the next disaster.

Taking this challenge, businesses can identify tools and resources businesses can use to be ready to keep the next disaster from becoming a catastrophe. Participating businesses will be better prepared to get back to business once the disaster is done.

When a business completes the challenge — at whatever level — the commission will recognize them as a Resilient Business Champion. Local governments will be kept informed about the number of businesses in their jurisdictions that have started and completed the challenge. The campaign will highlight cities and counties that have embraced the challenge and are making progress.

The commission is asking local governments to adopt a resolution to increase resiliency efforts within their communities and promoting the Resilient Business Challenge to their local businesses. The Outsmart Disaster campaign has drafted a sample resolution as a template.

The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 1–2 p.m. There is no cost to register.
